About B.Sc Agr. and its Scope

The B.Sc. (Agr.) Degree focus on agriculture, it involves study of agriculture sciences and use of modern scientific equipment and techniques in agriculture, land surveying, soil science, water resource management, animal and poultry management, basics of biotechnology etc. The objective of the course is to use these concepts to train students to improve agricultural productivity.

Program Overview

B.Sc. in Agriculture is a 4-year undergraduate degree awarded by IKG PTU Jalandhar for 10+2 students preferably with Science stream. Like BE/B.Tech or MBBS, B.Sc. in Agriculture is considered as a professional degree by Government of India.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must have passed 12th with Science subjects (medical /Non Medical).
  • Minimum percentage 50% in 12th or as per university.

B.Sc. (Agr.) Future Scope

B.Sc. Agriculture graduates can find jobs in both public and private sectors. Agriculture officer, Assistant Plantation Manager, Agricultural Research Scientist, Agriculture Development Officers, Agriculture Technician, Agriculturists, Business Development Executive, Marketing Executive etc. are some of the job profiles associated with the course.

The industrial as well as Govt. jobs requirements, Agro – Industry Sectors like food processing, Hafed, NABARD, grain and seed processing, dairy processing, feed manufacturing and service sectors like agricultural consultants, agricultural statisticians, agriculture officers in banks and foreign agricultural service etc. There are several Government agencies at center, state and district levels, which appoints agriculture graduates.

Also student can choose for further studies

Post graduation in agri botany, agri chemistry, agri economics, agri zoology, agronomy, extension education, forestry, micro biology, soil science, sericulture, agricultural biotechnology, agriculture sciences, applied aquaculture, animal husbandry, cropsiology, bio sciences, cooperative management, agricultural statistics, agri entomology, social forestry, farming system management, horticulture micology, microbiology, plant physiology, nematology, plant ecology, plant pathology, MSc Agriculture and take up a teaching job, or even go for a PhD and build a career in Agricultural Research. etc..
